In our neck of the woods I don’t just put the dogs out to use the facilities. There’s wildlife to contend with & while Loki may see them as big play things, I’m certain they don’t feel the same about him. The two smaller, older pups will just wander off not realizing they’ve headed into a forest or down the coulie. Looking out the window to ensure we have the “all clear”, I find three does. One has a baby with her. “Nope, you don’t get to go out here” I tell Lok. Then I realize their vibe is off. Something’s going on. Because I’m nosey, I let Loki out in back and return to the window to check on the deer.
Low & behold we have drama! Momma doe has her twins, but is separated from one. Momma & one baby are on the road & baby number two is still on the hill. She has two mean girls standing between her and her Momma. They start to chase her… Momma’s watching, baby is bleating out for Momma to save her while running for dear life , and I am yelling at the window “get your baby, Momma!” But Momma just continues to watch.
Finally, baby girl makes a quick turn & beelines right towards her Momma. Nowww, she steps in. “Oh no you don’t!” as baby makes it safely to the road, Momma runs towards the two bullies. I thought for sure I’d see some serious street fighting deer style take place. I my mind I’m seeing head butting, some hoof kicking, and antler tanglin’ but females don’t have antlers. Was I to intervene & try to break it up? Goodness, no! I’d like to keep my guts intact right where they are. Thank you very much. So I didn’t.
Everyone is safe now & on their way to wherever they are headed, I’m wiped out from the drama, and it’s clearly time for coffee!
For reference this all occurred before 7 am!
Have a great day!
