Do you sourdough? In other words, do you have/make/use your own sourdough?
For those of you who may be new here, I have had a love/hate relationship with learning all things sourdough. Truth be told I still don’t know the terminology. 🤷🏼♀️
About a month ago I killed a really good starter. I had been feeding, discarding, baking to get this lil bad boy up & running. The flavorful aroma of sourdough was intoxicating! Right up until I killed him! Purely accidental, I assure you.
Let me share. It was a gorgeous weekend and among the chores & caregiving, I was baking loaves of sourdough. One at a time mind you, as I am still a novice. While doing so I decided I’d make a yummy focaccia recipe for dinner (which turned out focaca). I was clearly feeling very confident in my sourdough abilities (although I must say this was my second or third try at focaccia). I had everything prepped, turned on the oven to preheat, and once the dish was put together I turned to put the food in, opened the over door & yelped! Poor SourBro was baked; and, not the good kind! No, he was cooked through, the plastic lid melting into his little home… I was devastated! Que the tears now. 😭
We were headed to see my son & his family in a few days so I knew I couldn’t create a new starter until we returned home. But, SourBro was so good. He had produced some really great loaves that we (mostly me) enjoyed. An idea came to me. I reached out to some of my more seasoned sourdough friends to ask if it is at all possible to reincarnate SourBro from the discard I had in the fridge. The advice was kind of dismal. Nonetheless, I tried. What’s the worse that could happen? It’s only flour & water. Right?!?!
I am proud to say, I did it! I reincarnated SourBro and he is as awesome as ever! ♥️
